Epidemiology Study

Central Question: "How much of the socioeconomic gradient in the occurrence of general self-rated health, musculoskeletal disorders, workplace injury and assault
mental health problems (e.g., depression)
is explained by socioeconomic differences in occupational exposures and the general work environment?"

Case identification was based in information from subject questionnaires.

Exposure assessment in the work environment had to be comprehensive in order to answer the above question adequately. Data was combined from the case studies (record review, key informant interviews and focus groups), subject questionnaires, and direct observation.

Outcomes Team Study

We used a combination of standard epidemiological and econometric techniques to analyze the possible consequences of job-related injuries and illness. The team studied how injuries and disabling health conditions affect future employment and thus income, use of the workers' compensation system, access to medical care and physical or mental well-being.
