Printer FriendlyThe excitement and promise of nanotechnology provides a unique opportunity to increase public awareness of the critical importance of science and technology to society. Nanotechnology and nanomanufacturing will require a more diverse technical education of the current and projected workforce. Moreover, nanotechnology should motivate more youth to become interested and better prepared for careers in science, math, engineering and technology.
Nanomanufacturing at UML includes a comprehensive educational program at all levels, and encompasses a variety of new seminars and courses, as well as a four-course (12-credit) Graduate Certificate in Nanotechnology. Through the NSF Center for High-rate Nanomanufacturing, faculty are incorporating nanotechnology into a large number of existing undergraduate courses, offering summer research experiences for undergraduates and K-12 teachers, and providing extensive outreach activities, including workshops for teachers and students, programming with the Museum of Science in Boston and industrial seminars and workshops.
