Carole Ward

Carole Ward received a B.S. in chemistry at a time when very few women were attending 'Lowell Tech' and even fewer job opportunities in the chemical field were available for women. After graduation she gravitated towards the field of biochemistry and worked as a researcher at several universitites including Harvard Medical School; MIT; University of California at both Berkeley and San Francisco. During the TIme she met many wonderful researchers and co-authored several publications with them.

She then joined Syntex Corp, at that time basically the only pharmaceutical company in the San Francisco Bay area. Around this time the new field of Genetic Engineering/Biotechnology was coming into being and she joined Genentech Inc, when it was a small start-up company. Shortly after, Genentech became the first genetic engineering company to go public and also the first to have products on the market. During her tenure at Genentech, Carole worked her way up from researcher to Project Manager and also co-authored several publications and a book chapter. As project manager she was responsible for managing all aspects of a drugs' development as it progressed from research all the way to market.

After leaving Genentech to retire and relax there was such a demand from small Biotech start-ups for drug development espertise that Carole became a sonsultant helping small and medium size companies with their drug development problems. Carole has been a member of several pharmaceutical organizations and has presented papers, posters, and led sessions at various national and international meetings.
