UMass Lowell’s annual Commencement exercises have always been about celebrating the success of our students and the enormous academic and personal achievement they have earned.

To further this focus, this year we’ve decided to highlight our student Commencement speakers as their respective ceremonies’ keynotes.

Past UMass Lowell student speakers have shared incredibly powerful stories of perseverance, accomplishment and humor. These student stories have often resonated deeply with the members of our graduating class.

The university will also make a $500 donation to the student organization of choice on behalf of each student speaker.

As an additional response to feedback we have received in recent years, UMass Lowell will also be moving its Commencement program from a printed to a digital format.

Every year, thousands of printed programs are left behind after each ceremony, only to be discarded. As the No. 1 sustainable university in Massachusetts, UMass Lowell strives to be a leader in environmental stewardship, and this is one more way we can achieve that.

The digital program will be available on UMass Lowell’s Commencement website, links to which will be shared on social media as well as on posters with a QR code on the days of the ceremonies.

We look forward to enjoying the shared excitement of more than 4,500 students graduating this May.
