Sandbox Leadership Institute

The Merrimack Valley Sandbox boosts entrepreneurship and leadership in Lowell and Lawrence. Exploring both cities, participants in the Sandbox Leadership Institute will deepen their insights into social justice, strengthen their ability to lead, and build a network with other socially responsible leaders.

• A program day from 9:00 a.m - 5:00 p.m. one Wednesday a month from September to June; with a Sunday-Monday retreat in October.

• A track focused on Lowell and a track focused on Lawrence, with shared activities to bridge the two cities.

• Discussion of social policy topics such as immigration, health disparities, environmental justice, poverty, crime, and education.

• Open dialogue on issues of diversity including race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, disabilities, and class — ways they shape our communities and our leadership.

• Site visits to local organizations, businesses, and public institutions to meet with local leaders from the grassroots and the headlines.

• Participation in Sandbox activities to mentor, network, and build new skills.

• Developing leadership commitments for work, family, and community.

Applications due July 27, 2011

Our institute will enroll individuals from the private, non-profit, and public sectors. Participants will range from early in their careers to retirement.

Tuition is $2,500. Payments may be spread over several months.

Financial aid is available, and will generally range from $500 to $1,500. Awards will be made upon admission. After the deadline, applications will be accepted on a rolling basis. Please check to see if space or financial aid remain.
