There will be a parade, a marching band, soccer, field hockey and volleyball games, a gaggle of student groups selling food and painting faces, pony rides for the kids and a hospitality tent for alums. It’s UMass Lowell Homecoming.
Sponsored by Athletics, Alumni Relations and Student Affairs, the Oct. 6 event will be part of a season-long series of activities intended to boost campus spirit.
Homecoming will include the activities of Family Day and a traditional alumni homecoming oriented around athletic events. Kicked off with a parade of athletes and students, the day’s activities will take place at the Cushing Field complex behind Costello Gym. Opening ceremonies will feature a welcome by Chancellor Marty Meehan.
The UMass Lowell cross country and track and field teams will host the 8th annual Jennifer’s Run, a 5K race which benefits the Jennifer D’Amour Scholarship Foundation, in conjunction with Homecoming Weekend. The race is held in honor of Jennifer D’Amour, a member of the UML cross country and track and field teams from 1994-98, who lost her life in a car accident in May 1999. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. in the Riverside Parking lot at Riverside and Sparks streets, followed by the race at 10 a.m.
A women's soccer game starts at noon, followed by women's volleyball and field hockey at 1 p.m. and men’s soccer at 3 p.m. A DJ and live bands will perform throughout the day.
