The academic world is a pretty serious place, so discovering the creative side of colleagues is “lots of fun,” according to planners of the Women’s Works holiday art and craft fair.
Women’s Works 2009 will take place Thursday, Dec. 3, from 2 to 8 p.m., in the UMass Lowell Inn & Conference Center in downtown Lowell. It is sponsored by the Center for Women and Work, with additional support from the Jeanne D'Arc Credit Union and the UMass Lowell Office of the Chancellor.
Holiday shoppers will find much to choose from in a bountiful array of art works, hand crafts, artisanal foods and books – all created by women associated with UMass Lowell.
A continuous performance stage will feature music, historic skits and spoken word. Raffles will be drawn throughout the day with prizes from local businesses. The event concludes with a wine and cheese tasting, from 6 to 8 p.m., and a silent auction.
Entrance fees – $5 for general admission and $1 for students – and a percentage of sales will support the Center for Women and Work, dedicated to improving the conditions of work and economic opportunities for women.
Artists, artisans and performers who are faculty or staff — as well as their family members and alumni — are invited to contact Darcie Boyer at 978-934-4380 or cww@uml.edu about display and performance space.
