On Thanksgiving, some families in Lowell will have a fully-laden dinner table that might not have been so full without the contributions of the UMass Lowell community.
The Offices of Residence Life, Student Activities and Leadership, and Multicultural Affairs, Aramark and Alternative Spring Break have joined forces with Merrimack Valley Catholic Charities to collect Thanksgiving food for families in the area. Collection boxes can be found in each residence hall lobby, Southwick dining hall, campus libraries, the Campus Recreation Center and McGauvran Campus Center.
Donated food could include turkey gravy, boxes of stuffing, cranberry sauce, applesauce, canned green beans or corn, pumpkin or apple pie mixes and crusts, bread or roll mixes and instant potatoes.
On Nov. 23, a group of campus volunteers will sort into complete dinners and distribute food to families at the Inn and Conference Center. Volunteers can sign up at any residence hall security booth, Student Information Center or by contacting the Catholic Student Union at Catholic_Center@uml.edu or ext. 5032.
Aramark will be raising funds to support the Thanksgiving Food Drive with a pie sale. They will contribute a portion of the pie drive profits to the food drive. Pies can be order at any dining location. The pies will be available for pick-up on Tuesday, Nov. 24 and Wednesday, Nov. 25 at Southwick Food Court, Broadway & Wilder or Fox Hall.
