Faculty, staff, and students of the University of Massachusetts Lowell can access the library's electronic resources from off campus using an Internet connection. Off campus access to the Library databases is provided for all currently enrolled students, all active and emeritus faculty, and staff.
Almost all online resources can be searched using a web browser. A few library resources that require specific client software to be installed before searching are listed below.
Getting Connected
Users who have an Internet service provider (e.g., Comcast, Verizon, AOL, or corporate network) can use that provider to access the University Library website. Once connected users must authenticate themselves as currently enrolled or employed at UMass Lowell to gain access to the library resources.
Identification/Authentication
To use the Library Proxy Server, click the "Off Campus Users Login" link on the side-bar navigation menu. All registered students and faculty and staff are allowed access by use of your UML email address and password as your login. Once logged in, you will be returned to the library's home page where you can then begin searching the Libraries’ online subscription resources. You will remain logged in for the length of your searching sessions.
To use the University Virtual Private Network (VPN), apply for a VPN account from the University IT department. Use this account to log into the University network and connect to the library website. VPN creates a secure connection between the user’s PC and the library resources. VPN is available to faculty and staff without charge. Be advised that VPN accounts may take several days to be activated.
