The Labor Extension Program provides educational services and technical assistance to unions in the region covered by the North Shore, Merrimack Valley, Central Massachusetts and North Worcester Labor Councils.

The UMass Lowell Labor Extension Program works in conjunction with similar programs at the UMass campuses in Boston, Dartmouth and Amherst. 

Susan Winning Receives Award from MVCLC


Labor Extension Program Coordinator Susan Winning was given an award at the recent Merrimack Valley Central Labor Council dinner for her dedication and hard work for working people.





Electronic Medical Records and Health Information Technology. The stimulus package contains $19 billion to promote Electronic Medical Records and other Health Information Technology. Charley Richardson has been writing commentaries about how this will affect health-care workers and health care. Recent pieces include an open memo to unions representing health care workers and an examination of the role of insurer Wellpoint in health information technology policy, while using information technology to build opposition to progressive health care reform and developing programs of "medical tourism" - shipping patients overseas for lower cost medical care.
