Let me begin by thanking everyone for making me feel so welcomed at UMass Lowell since I joined the staff in early September.  As someone coming in from the outside with a fresh perspective, I am impressed every day by the caliber of faculty and staff, your commitment to utilizing technology as an enabling mechanism for primary functions, and your desire to take technology to another level.  It is truly an exciting time to be at the University, and I look forward to building a UMass Lowell shared vision of technology for the future.

There are many exciting developments in Information Technology, and this newsletter will be one of the ways we hope to expand our communications to keep everyone informed of changes.  In this inaugural edition of the IT Interface newsletter, please visit our sections on:

  • Instructional Technology: to read about new technology enhanced classrooms.

  • Advisory Committee: to read about the formation of a new steering committee to help guide the future of technology growth.

  • Information Security: to read about security tips for both your work and home computers.

  • Networking: to read about the creation of a second path off campus to the internet and the providing of an enhanced internet2/layer2 connectivity.

  • Enterprise Systems: to read about the new student email system and the upgrade to exchange 2010 for staff and faculty.

  • Project Management: to read about the implementation of a new electronic document imaging system.

  • IT Organization: to read about the initial steps taken to realign technology support resources.

  • Additional Technology Support Services (pdf): to read about academic and administrative technology support services available on campus.

To read so much more, just follow the links located on the left side of this page. Please make reading each edition of IT Interface a priority.  So many exciting new initiatives will be coming to UMass Lowell, but you can’t take advantage of them if you don’t know about them.

It is also essential that we hear from you about what your concerns and hopes are for technology and technology support at the University.  It is only by working together that we can build and realize a shared vision for the future of UMass Lowell.
