Software
UMass Lowell provides free McAfee anti-virus software (for Windows machines) to all students. In addition, through UMass Lowell's agreements with other software providers, nVivo qualitative data analysis software is available. A one-year license of the nVivo software can be purchased directly through QSR International for $103 + $30 handling fee ($133).
Our McAfee anti-virus software is customized for UMass Lowell students and may be installed on home PCs and laptops.
Download 8.5i for Windows XP and Vista
*This version is required for Windows Vista users. User must enter their UML email address and password to initiate the download and installation. Once you have copied the self-extracting file to your desktop and double-clicked to begin the installation, wait until you see the dialog box informing you the installation is complete and a reboot is required.

*This version requires Mac OS X Tiger (10.4.6 or later) or Mac OS X Leopard (10.5 or later). User must enter their UML email address and password to initiate the download and installation. Double-click the Virex package icon to start the Installer.

*This version will run on all OS X versions up to 10.3.x. User must enter their UML email address and password to initiate the download and installation. Double-click the Virex package icon to start the Installer.
When on campus, students can pick up a CD at the Help Desk.
We recommend that all students download and install Windows Defender, the free anti-spyware application, at www.microsoft.com.
