There are identified campus business needs to deliver a comprehensive document imaging solution. This includes the need to replace existing, but aging tools used to scan and distribute information; and also to deliver new functionality to archive print documents and reduce necessary filing/storage. Still further, the technology solutions available today could also be used as document repositories which provide electronic check-in/check-out of documents with version controls. There are workflow tools available which would allow a form to route from one place to another without ever being printed.
As this is a new technology solution for the campus, we will need to move slowly to assure we make good decisions on the tools, policies, and process so this can be a sustainable solution for the future of UML. In an effort to control the scope of this initial phase of the project, we are looking at this as a tool to manage administrative functions versus research and academic drivers.
This project has been put on hold until funding is identified.
