Disaster Recovery / Business Continuity

A campus-wide workgroup has been formed to identify mission critical systems and to develop a business continuity/disaster recovery plan. Sponsors are Louise Griffen and Jeff Thompson. Group leaders are Tony Kolodziej and Eileen Trott.

The DR/BC Team will be implementing a web based tool (Restarting UML) that will simplify and standardize the process of developing & writing a business continuity plan.  Restarting UML was demonstrated at the last DR/BC meeting on April 20, 2007. Key highlights included how the tool addresses several of the objectives in the DR/BC Team Charter, its ease of use and ability to store completed plans for future updates.

A new version of the tool including a pandemic component will be made available in mid-June. The next phase of the project will include a pilot running the new version of Restarting UML with one administrative and academic department completing their DR/BC Plan using the tool. The DR/BC Team will reconvene afterwards to discuss the results.
