Whole disk encryption is a computer security technique that encrypts data stored on a hard drive and automatically decrypts the data when an authorized user requests it. Passwords alone are not sufficient to protect the data on your PC or laptop should it get lost or stolen. Disk encryption will prevent unauthorized data access since it is virtually impossible to bypass. Best of all, it is transparent to the end user and requires no training.
In addition to whole disk encryption, a new system for lost/stolen PCs & laptops will make recovery possible through an innovate tracking solution. This solution is ideal for faculty and staff who cannot afford to lose their data.
IT security is currently testing these solutions.
