International Students and Scholars Office

The ISSO serves 440 foreign students and scholars who hail from 52 countries spanning the globe.  International students are enrolled in a variety of undergraduate and graduate programs, with the majority pursuing a graduate degree.  Many of our international students also have an opportunity to work on campus while pursuing their studies.  This opportunity enhances their academic experience while providing a chance to obtain experience in their chosen field or to gain a wider understanding of American culture.  Our department is also pleased to serve the many international faculty, researchers and staff who work at UMass Lowell.

International students, scholars and employees provide unique perspectives about their home countries, cultures and native languages.  They enrich the university experience for all students and faculty members while pursuing their own goals and objectives.  We are grateful for their presence and welcome them. 

Services

Our staff members advise on compliance with academic and immigration regulations.  We are here to assist you in issues that matter to you whether it is to complete a form, to provide information on CPT or OPT,  to provide letters for social security numbers or invitation letters, to update or change SEVIS information or to advise on tax treaty benefits. 

We partner with our international community to help protect their visa status, to assist in adjusting to life at UMass Lowell and the United States, and to support them in their academic, professional and personal goals.
