Post Completion Optional Practical Training (Post OPT)

Students interested in applying for Post Completion Optional Practical Training (Post OPT), please be forewarned that it is currently taking the U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services (USCIS) three to four months to process an OPT petition from the date the application is received by them. It takes our office three to five days to prepare the  petition for submittal. There have been extensive changes in student work authorization regulations over the past year. It is in your best interest to stay informed. The International Students & Scholars Office (ISSO) holds regular informational workshops. Please to contact our office to schedule a Post OPT Informational Session (978-934-2386 or 2383).  The following points are critical to the Post Completion Optional Practical Training process:

  • Post Completion Optional Practical Training deadlines are based on a student’s completion date.
  • The United States Citizenship & Immigration Services (USCIS) considers a student’s completion date to be the date the student completes his/her degree requirements, which is not necessarily the same as the semester end date or the school’s degree conferral date.
  • The deadline to apply for Post OPT is within 90 days of the student’s completion date or within 60 days beyond the completion date.

PROCESS FOR APPLYING FOR POST OPT:

Contact the International Students & Scholars Office (ISSO) at (978) 934-2386 to schedule an appointment for an informational workshop.
