Sponsorship Opportunities

The 2011 International Women Leaders’ Summit offers an outstanding opportunity for your organization to gain significant national and international exposure to global entrepreneurs and leaders through a series of sponsorship opportunities.

University of Massachusetts Lowell, Lowell, Massachusetts
April 10 -12, 2011

Notable women peace leaders from Africa, Columbia, Egypt, India, Israel, Northern Ireland and the United States will convene to define common pathways toward conflict resolution across the globe; address common challenges underlying opportunities for peace; and produce a declaration that focuses on universal next steps.

This is a critical global moment for peace education as armed conflict continues to be prevalent worldwide. The rise of terrorism as a global threat creates an urgent need for creative solutions to international violence. A new generation of leaders needs to be equipped to deal with the challenges of the twenty first century.

"UMass Lowell students increasingly want to address conflict in their community and around the world,” says Dr. Paula Rayman, Director of the Middle East Center and Professor of Social Sciences. “The Summit will begin to identify successful principles underlying past and present initiatives for peace through economic and social development in order to inform future global endeavors."

Keynote speakers include:

  • Barbara Hogan, former MP, former Minister of Health and the former Minister of Public Enterprises in the Cabinet of South Africa.  Hogan, an anti-apartheid leader, was included in the 2009 Time 100, an annual list of the 100 most influential people in the world.
  • Leymah Gbowee, Liberian peace activist who led a group of women during the Liberian Civil War in non-violent protests that forced President Charles Taylor to engage in peace talks. Ms. Gbowee is featured in the documentary "Pray the Devil Back to Hell" and is Director of the Women, Peace, and Security Network Africa
