General Summary (Purpose) of Position
This permanent appointment is for the academic year (nine-month). It is a tenure-track position, in which the faculty member is responsible for teaching courses in Clinical Laboratory Instrumentation, Physiological Chemistry, and Organic Reactions and Structures. Responsibilities also include coordinating respective co-requisite laboratories. This faculty member will also develop industry relations for Clinical Sciences option students, for senior research projects/internship programs with biotechnology, biomedical devices, and pharmaceutical companies. Supervision of student research on campus, and advising of students, is also part of the faculty responsibility.
The faculty member is expected to conduct an active research initiative, with the ongoing pursuit and procurement of external funding. He/she is then responsible for publishing these research results in prestigious refereed or juried media, with the objective of continuing contribution to the scientific community. Interdisciplinary research in biomedical device development and/or nanomedicine desirable.
Clinical Laboratory and Nutritional Sciences is an academic department in UMass Lowell’s School of Health and Environment. The Department offers two Bachelor of Science degrees: (1) in Clinical Laboratory Sciences with options in Clinical Sciences and Medical Technology, and (2) in Nutritional Sciences. The Department also offers a Master of Science Program in Clinical Laboratory Sciences, a 5-year combined BS/MS program, graduate certificate programs in Clinical Pathology, Nutritional Sciences and Public Health Laboratory Sciences.

Salary and rank are commensurate with qualifications and experience.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Earned Doctorate in Biomedical or Clinical Chemistry or related discipline
• Clinical Laboratory Sciences or Medical Technology national Board Certification or eligibility strongly recommended (i.e. ASCP, NCA).
• Significant recognition of teaching excellence, with innovative scholarly activity.
• Demonstrated record of research, secured grants and publication, with commitment to continued development and productive activity in scholarly research and publications.
• Demonstrated ability working with diverse student and faculty population.
