General Summary (Purpose) of Position
The Mathematics Education program serves graduate students seeking to become middle and high school mathematics teachers, as well as experienced educators enrolled in the Ed.D. in Mathematics and Science Education. The Graduate School of Education is NCATE accredited and noted for its strength in post baccalaureate teacher preparation, online and on campus masters degree programs, and three doctoral programs. We value a diverse faculty in order to enhance the academic experience for students and better reflect the communities we serve. Working in close partnership with PK-12 schools in the region, the Graduate School of Education is dedicated to transforming and improving the quality of education for students of all ages. The University of Massachusetts Lowell is situated 25 miles north of Boston in the city of Lowell, home of the Lowell National Historical Park.

Anticipated starting date of September 1st, 2008.  Appointment is subject to funding.
Initial review of applications begins December 1, 2007.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Earned Doctorate in Mathematics Education or receipt of the degree by May 2008.
• Minimum of an undergraduate degree in mathematics.
• Demonstrated experience teaching mathematics in a K-12 setting, preferably at the secondary education level.
• Demonstrated experience teaching mathematics education courses, either at the undergraduate or graduate level.
• Commitment and willingness to participate in STEM outreach initiatives and online teaching.
• Demonstrated potential for publications in scholarly journals.
• Demonstrated ability working with diverse students and faculty.
• Candidates seeking the rank of associate or full professor must also have a record of grant-funded research, a substantial publication record and should have participated in doctoral dissertation committees.
