General Summary (Purpose) of Position
The Director of Clinical Nursing Resources represents the Department of Nursing in establishing and renewing contracts with affiliating agencies for student practicums. Assists faculty with student placements, oversees completion of necessary online and written paperwork; as well as evaluation documentation and reports at the end of placements.
Examples of Duties:
1. Serves as the Director of Clinical Nursing Resources for contract negotiations and clinical placements by:
• Meeting with potential and existing affiliating agencies to develop and maintain clinical placements for undergraduate and graduate Nurse Practitioner students.
• Negotiating and renewing contracts, as well as articulation agreements with affiliating agencies.
• Conferring with University attorney on contract wording and issues as necessary.
• Representing UML Department of Nursing at agency affiliation meetings.
• Developing new and additional affiliations as needed.
• Submitting necessary online and/or written application paperwork as required by affiliating agencies each semester.
• Maintaining and updating student and faculty health and professional documentation for submission to affiliating agencies as required.
• Collecting affiliating agency site evaluations from students and faculty and reviewing results with faculty to determine appropriateness of site in meeting student clinical issues.
• Attending monthly meetings as a member of the Massachusetts Board of Higher Education's Central Clinical Placement Group. This computerized placement tool is necessary for requesting placements with all member affiliating agencies.
• Providing/presenting monthly and annual reports to faculty on clinical issues.
• Collaborating with faculty and students in the selection and establishment of clinical placements.
2. Provide support for the Department of Nursing by:
• Serving as a committee member for both internal and external organizations to strengthen and expand the role of clinical education.
• Serving as a member of the Preceptor Appreciation / Research Day to participate in preceptor, student, and faculty development.
• Providing information for compilation of reports, surveys, and accreditation applications including but not limited to the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing, National Task Force on Quality NP Education, and the Massachusetts Board of Higher Education as necessary.
3. Promote the University’s commitment to customer service by:
• Building effective partnerships with co-workers throughout the University and outside agencies by freely sharing appropriate information and providing assistance when needed.
• Ensuring optimum service to all internal and external partners in response to all requests for service and information.
• Maintaining an environment that is welcoming to persons of all backgrounds, nationalities, and roles.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• RN and BS degree required; MS degree strongly preferred.
• 5 years RN experience
• Demonstrated negotiation and organizational skills.
• Demonstrated computer skills with word processing, spreadsheet and data based systems, experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access desirable
• Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with a variety of partners, including nurse education administrators, hospital staff, other state agencies, co-workers and students.
• Commitment to increasing diversity in nursing.
• Valid Driver’s license and access to vehicle.
• Ability to drive to various locations in Greater Boston area.
Supervision Received: Reports to the Chair of Nursing
