General Summary (Purpose) of Position
The Department of Music seeks candidates for a full-time tenure-track position in Music History for Fall 2008. The successful candidate will teach primarily undergraduate Music History and Literature classes (including various period and genre courses), but also some graduate level courses, non-major General Education classes (such as Music Appreciation), and possibly some Honors classes. The successful candidate will also be expected to maintain an active role in professional development and research, faculty governance, and professional service activities.

We seek an individual with expertise and research interests in a variety of areas. Several areas of particular interest would be Gender Issues in Music, American Music, American Musical Theater, History of Jazz, and Contemporary (20th-century) Music History; other areas will also be given full consideration.

The University of Massachusetts Lowell is situated 25 miles north of Boston in the city of Lowell, home of the Lowell National Historical Park, and is within a short commute to the seacoast and the NH ski and lake regions. Appointment to begin Fall 2008.  Initial review of applications will begin February 1, 2008.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Earned Doctorate in Music History/Musicology.
• Demonstrated ability teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
• 3-5 years of college teaching experience.
• Familiarity with representative literature from all major style periods of music.
• Demonstrated clear and articulate communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Ability to engage students in clearly articulated discourse.
• Demonstrated potential for publications in scholarly journals.
• Demonstrated ability working with diverse student and faculty population.
• Excellent organizational, computer and networking skills.
