UMass Lowell provides health insurance to employees, their spouses and dependents under 19 through the Massachusetts Group Insurance Commission. Employees can choose from a range of different insurance plans including indemnity and health-maintenance organizations (HMOs).
Insurance benefits are effective on the first of the month following 60 calendar days of employment or two calendar months, whichever is shorter. Employees are eligible for health-care coverage through one of the health plans arranged for by the Commonwealth's Group Insurance Commission--GIC Indemnity, GIC Indemnity Plus or one of several HMOs. Membership in an HMO requires that you live within that plan's service area.
GIC Coverage for Unmarried Dependents Ages 19-26 Expands
The Commonwealth’s Health Care Reform Act expands GIC coverage for unmarried dependents ages 19-26. If you have a dependent who may be eligible for this coverage, complete and return the Dependent Age 19 or Over application. See the
