Unemployment Insurance

Unemployment Insurance (UI) provides benefits to certain employees looking for full-time employment. The UI program is administered by the Commonwealth’s Department of Unemployment Assistance (DUA) and all DUA decisions are made according to the Massachusetts Unemployment Insurance Law.

Upon request of the DUA, UMass Lowell provides a breakdown of an employee’s earnings for the 52-week period prior to the date an unemployment claim is filed and also gives a reason for the separation. UMass Lowell does not determine whether or not a terminated employee is eligible to receive unemployment benefits.
