Sea Education
Association (SEA)
The Sea Education Association (SEA) in Woods Hole, MA provides undergraduates
with an opportunity to participate in an academic study-abroad program
called the SEA Semester. The program combines intensive research in
the areas of oceanography, maritime studies, and nautical science with
hands-on experience aboard a traditional sailing ship. Piloting, celestial
navigation, and practical seamanship are learned together with oceanographic
sampling techniques and marine laboratory procedures. Critical thinking,
problem-solving, team-building and leadership skills are emphasized
throughout the program. SEA Semester is appropriate for students in
marine biology, geology and physical science, environmental studies,
American studies, and most other areas within the liberal arts and sciences.
Academic credit for SEA Semester is obtained through Boston University.

Science Foundation Research Experience for Undergraduates Program
The National Science Foundation sponsors many summer Research Experience
for Undergraduates (REU) programs. For more information please see

Institutes at Georgetown University
The Fund for American Studies is sponsoring three summer institutes
at Georgetown University in Washington, DC. The program combines two
courses for credit, site briefings, and a lecture series by policy experts.
The institutes are the Engalitcheff Institute on Comparative Political
and Economic Systems, the Bryce Harlow Institute on Business and Government
Affairs, and the Institute on Political Journalism. The early application
deadline is January 15, and the final deadline is March 15. Numerous

The National Security Education Program offers scholarships to U.S.
undergraduate students at two- and four-year institutions in Africa,
Asia, Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Latin America, and

Field Courses
Rainforest and Marine Ecology
We are a non-profit organization specializing in outstanding and affordable
Field Courses Rainforest and Marine Ecology presently offered in nine
countries (http://www.rainforestandreef.org).
All programs are operated by partner organizations that have shown a
strong commitment to conservation and education over time at each site.
Ninety-nine percent of all participation fees stay with our partners
to assist in conservation and education projects.
Local Guides and Biologists are featured in the study of natural history,
rainforest and coral reef ecology, medicinal uses of native plants,
conservation, land management, local cultures, archaeology, geology
and much more…In the past our programs have been represented by University,
Community College and High School groups, as well as "independent participants"….University
professors and students, K-12 teachers, science professionals and curious
travelers. Past participants have come from across the U.S., Canada,
Latin America, Europe, Australia and the Far East.
Three Undergraduate or Graduate credits are available for attending
through Aquinas College (http://www.aquinas.edu)
of Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Korea: The
2002 Honors Semester
The National Collegiate Honors Council, Long Island University, and
Keimyung University are sponoring the 2002 Honors Semester in Korea
from February 14 - June 1, 2002. For more information, see Noelle McAfee
