Highlights - Students
Congratulations to Djwan Scott, who received a $7500 nursing scholarship from the Massachusetts Hospital Research and Educational Association (MHREA), the Tufts Health Plan Foundation and the Massachusetts Department of Higher Education. Djwan is enrolled in the Adult/Gerontology MS/APRN program. She is employed at Brigham and Women's Hospital. She also serves as the Diversity Suppport Services Coordinator at UMass Lowell.
Allison Geissert, '10 gave the Student Address at the 2010 Commencement Ceremonies on May 29, 2010. More videos can be found on the UMass Lowell YouTube Channel.
Amanda Peppe, a senior nursing student provided a guest editorial for the Malden Observer recently, entitled "Health Education: Fast Facts: Reducing the risks of stroke".
Allison Geissert, a senior nursing student in the School of Nursing, had an abstract accepted at the Association of Community Health Nursing Educators Annual National Conference in Washington DC, June 10-12, 2010. She will be presenting a poster entitled: Evaluation of the Effectiveness of the H1N1 Flu Vaccination Program on a Northeast Campus. This project describes her honors work completed in collaboration with Nancy Quattrocchi, Executive Director of Health Services.
Kaye Kenney, Senior Nursing Student, reading to kindergarten students at the Glenn Lake School in Goffstown, NH. This reading was part of a community service activity that was required for the course Community Health and Health Policy. All students provided five hours of service in their community. With the flu season underway in November, Kaye read to kindergartners about the importance of clean hands!

Marco Belluardo-Crosby has been awarded the 2009 American Psychiatric Nurses Association (APNA)-Ortho-McNeil Janssen Scientific Affairs, LLC Student Scholarship. This award is based on scholarship and leadership abilities in the field of psychiatric mental health nursing. Attendance at the annual APNA conference in Charleston, SC, October 7-10, is a part of the scholarship, and the scholarship recipients will be honored at the annual conference banquet. Congratulations, Marco!

Judith Fredette was awarded a $10,000 scholarship by the Massachusetts Hospital Research and Educational Association (MHREA), the Tufts Health Plan Foundation and the Massachusetts Department of Higher Education for her doctoral program studies in nursing and health promotion. Judy's research area of interest that she plans to pursue relates to quality of life of people who have multiple sclerosis. Judy also received $2000 from the Dr. Futrell Scholarship Fund.
