Clinical Microbiology, Safe Disinfection
My laboratory is focused on evaluating safer approaches to disinfection ("green" or low toxicity disinfectants.) Safer approaches include saturated steam vapor, activated water, thymol and other plant-derived chemicals, and do-it-yourself approaches using household products such as vinegar. We have particular interest in "real world" performance, including common errors made by users who don't follow the manufacturers' direction. We are also investigating in the performanceofrapid test methods for detecting residual microorganisms.
