1. Application
You may apply online or use a paper application form.

Tips.....
for accessing and completing the online application:

  • To use the online Web application, you will need to have Internet Explorer 4.0 or Netscape versions 4.0 or higher.
  • The online application must be completed and submitted in one sitting.
  • Use the ‘Back’ button on your browser to navigate to a previous page in your application.
  • Complete all required fields on the application pages, denoted by the asterisk (*).
  • Use ‘mixed’ case when supplying proper name information. ‘Mixed’ case refers to capitalizing the first letter of proper names.
  • Once the form is submitted (accomplished by hitting the 'submit' button at the end of the form) changes can only be made by calling the Office of Graduate Admissions: 800-656-GRAD / 934-2390.

Paper Application: To apply with a paper form, you can:

    • Download and print the application form (pdf) complete, and send to the address on the form;
    • Pick up a printed application at the Office of Graduate Admissions in Dugan Hall, Suite 110 on UML South; or
    • Request an application electronically.

2. Application Fee
The application fee is non-waivable and non-refundable. Applications will not be processed until this fee is received in the Office of Graduate Admissions.

Massachusetts Residents: Out-of-State and International Students:

By Credit Card: Accepted via telephone (978-934-3593) or in person at the Treasurer’s Office, Dugan Hall, UML South, between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

3. Statement of Purpose
On a separate sheet of paper, submit a brief statement indicating your immediate and long-range goals, relevant work history, academic honors/awards received, any teaching experience and/or research conducted/published that may be pertinent to your graduate program. Two page recommended maximum. Please mail to the address below.

Note: If you are applying to more than one program, you will need to submit a program-specific statement of purpose with each application package.

4. Letters Of Recommendation
You are required to send three (3) letters of recommendation. If you choose, you may use the graduate admissions recommendation form (pdf) for these; use of the form is optional.

Recommendations should be from instructors who have taught you, ideally in the field to which you are applying. Recommendations may also be from employers or supervisors who are in a position to compare your performance to that of your peers. Please use the recommendation form for these.

Recommendation letters should be signed & sealed in envelopes by the referees and mailed to the Office of Graduate Admissions, address above, with the other application materials.

5. Official Transcripts
Provide a complete and official transcript from the institution that awarded or will award you a baccalaureate or bachelor’s degree. You may also include transcripts from other institutions at which you have taken relevant coursework. Please note that waiting for additional transcripts may delay review of your application.

Transcripts should be sent in sealed and signed envelopes mailed to the Office of Graduate Admissions. If you received your degree from UMass Lowell, it is not necessary for you to request a transcript from the UMass Lowell Registrar's Office.

International transcripts that do not clearly indicate to the Office of Graduate Admissions that he or she has received a four-year bachelor’s degree, the equivalent of an American baccalaureate degree must be demonstrated before an application will be processed. Please note, the Office of Graduate Admissions reserves the right to have any application credential evaluted. Baccalaureate verification may be obtained for a fee at:

6. Official Test Score Report(s)
Request that the appropriate agency send an official test score report for the GRE or GMAT to the Office of Graduate Admissions. UMass Lowell’s school code is 3911.

7. Resume (MBA Applicants only)

Please submit a resume documenting a minimum of two years of full-time work experience.
