The certificate prepares a professional to create a new technology-based business. In essence, the task is to learn how to take Intellectual Property and convert that knowledge into an investable business entity.

The certificate is designed for science, engineering or business master's-level students who have completed most of their formal studies and are approaching the time to put their career knowledge to work. It is also designed to provide career enhancing education as well as to place the certificate candidate into an actual start-up business that would serve as a future full-time position.

Required Courses:

66.615 Foundations of New Venture Creation

Finance: Cash Flow, Capitalization Tables, Venture Investment; IP/Legal: Basics of IP Law, Basics of Business Law;

Technology: Management of Technology, Technology Roadmaping; Marketing: Value Proposition, Distribution, Pricing; Sales: Product Sales, Joint Ventures & Negotiations; Strategy: Competitive and Market Intelligence, Management and Control

66.616 New Venture Practicum 1

Develop Strategic, Financial, and Technical Roadmaps and Implementation Plans; Develop Operating Policies and Procedures; Identify Initial Customers/Projects;
Output Review by Outside 'Friendly' Investors

66.617 New Venture Practicum 2
Development of Investment Proposal
Funding
Launch of New Business

One Elective: Selected in consultation with Program Coordinator

Additional Admissions Requirements: A minimum of 20 hours of Graduate-level credit; Personal interview.
