Freshman Orientation Requirements


The January Freshmen Orientation date is one day to accmodate all majors. Please make arrangements now to reserve the entire day for important presentations, your placement tests, course selection, and registration.  Lunch is provided.

Check-in times and locations will be sent to you via email when you register.  Orientation staff will direct you to the exact location when you arrive.  The Freshman Orientation Session will complete for each student around 4:00 p.m. 

Personal Items You Should Bring:

    • Identification:
       Option 1: Driver's license & original social security card.
       Option 2: Passport.
    • Small amount of cash for snacks, etc.
    • Any prescription medicine (refrigeration available).
    • Casual clothes and shoes for walking and appropriate for changing weather.
    • A fan is optional.  

Documents you MUST Bring:

Proof of Health Insurance: Massachusetts State Law requires that all students attending the University have health insurance. If you don't have health insurance, you'll be automatically enrolled in the University's health plan and billed. If you already have health insurance, you'll receive and must complete a waiver form during Orientation.

Medical Records: Health Services needs complete records at the beginning of the spring semester. If you have not sent records earlier, bring them to Orientation.

Guidelines:

To insure the safety and well-being of all participants, we require the following:

  1. Do not bring any alcohol or drugs to Orientation. Anyone found with these substances will be immediately sent home, no exceptions.

  2. Do not leave campus during Orientation. The day is full of activities and tasks that are essential to your preparation for the spring.  If you leave, you won't be registered for classes.

  3. Do not plan to have visitors or guests during Orientation. After check-in, no one other than other new students will be allowed to attend Orientation as it is a special time for you to meet other UMass Lowell students.

Orientation behavior includes respecting all persons and property. Any unacceptable behavior toward either will result in disciplinary action and possible removal from the program.
