Federal Pell Grant:

  • Federal grant administered by the U.S. Dept of Education
  • Eligibility determined by demonstrated financial need
  • Available to students pursuing their first undergraduate degrees with exceptional need
  • For 2009-2010, awards range from $976 to $5350, depending on eligibility
  • Gift aid that does not need to be repaid

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG):

  • Federal grant awarded by the UMass Lowell Financial Aid Office
  • Eligibility determined by demonstrated financial need
  • Available to students pursuing their first undergraduate degrees with exceptional need
  • Awards range from $200 to $4000, depending on available funds and number of eligible applicants
  • Gift aid that does not need to be repaid

Academic Competitiveness Grant (ACG1 & ACG2):

  • Federal grant administered by the U.S. Dept of Education
  • Must be a recipient of Federal Pell Grant
  • Enrolled at least half time
  • Must have completed a rigorous high school program
  • ACG1 available to freshman who graduate from high school after Jan 1, 2006
  • ACG2 available to sophomores who graduate from high school after Jan 1, 2005 with a current cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0
  • ACG1 awards provide up to $750
  • ACG2 awards provide up to $1300
  • Gift aid that does not need to be repaid

National Science and Mathematics Access to Retain Talent (SMART) Grant:

  • Federal grant administered by the U.S. Dept of Education
  • Must be a recipient of Federal Pell Grant
  • Enrolled at least half time
  • Available to Juniors and Seniors
  • Cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 each semester
  • Enrolled in Computer Science, Engineering, Critical Foreign Languages, Life Sciences, Mathematics, Physical Sciences, Technology, or Multidisciplinary Studies
  • Awards provide up to $4000
  • Gift aid that does not have to be repaid

MASS Grant Program:

  • State funded grant program administered by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
  • Eligibility determined on demonstrated financial need
  • Available to students pursuing their first undergraduate degrees with exceptional need
  • Full time enrollment
  • Legal Massachusetts state residents
  • FAFSA must be filed by May 1
  • Gift aid that does not need to be repaid
  • Non-residents should contact their state scholarship office to determine eligibility requirements and if an award is transferable to UML

MASS Part-Time Grant:

  • State funded grant program administered by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
  • Eligibility determined on demonstrated financial need
  • Available to students pursuing their first undergraduate degrees with exceptional need
  • Enrolled in 6-11 undergraduate credits
  • Legal Massachusetts state residents
  • Gift aid that does not need to be repaid

Board of Higher Education Tuition Waiver (BHE Waiver):

  • State funded program administered by the UMass Lowell Financial Aid Office
  • Eligibility is determined by demonstrated financial need
  • Available to undergraduate students enrolled at least half time, priority given to full time students
  • Legal residents of Massachusetts
  • Waiver applies to state funded-undergraduate degree courses only, continuing education courses are not covered by this program
  • Gift aid that does not need to be repaid

Board of Higher Education Grant (BHE Grant):

  • State funded program administered by the UMass Lowell Financial Aid Office
  • Eligibility is determined by demonstrated financial need
  • Available to undergraduate students enrolled at least half time, priority given to full time students
  • Legal residents of Massachusetts
  • Gift aid that does not need to be repaid

UML Need Based Grant:

  • Institutional grant administered by the Financial Aid Office
  • Eligibility is determined by demonstrated financial need
  • Available to students pursuing their first undergraduate degree 
  • Gift aid that does not need to be repaid

Chancellor's Scholarship:

  • Institutionally funded program administered by the Financial Aid Office
  • Eligibility determined on demonstrated financial need
  • Available to first time freshmen enrolled in undergraduate colleges
  • Top 25 percent of their graduating high school class
  • Combined SAT score of 1200
  • Full-time students
  • Awards provide up to $3,000 a year towards tuition and fees and $2,000 towards on-campus room and board
  • Renewable for a total of four years, if the student maintains a 3.0 cumulative grade point average and continues to demonstrate financial need
  • Gift aid that does not need to be repaid
