The Financial Aid Award Notification Letter lists the types and amounts of financial aid for which you are eligible for the entire academic year.
Students will receive a Financial Aid Award Notification if you meet all the following criteria:
- You filed a current academic year FAFSA with the Department of Education and received a valid Expected Family Contribution (EFC)
- You have been accepted into a degree or eligible certificate program, returning students must be enrolled in courses
- You have responded to all requests for additional documentation to resolve conflicting information and/or complete the verification process (allowing sufficient time for processing)
- You are eligible to receive financial aid
Students will be notified of their financial aid awards according to the following criteria:
- Incoming students accepted to the University who complete their FAFSA by the March 1 priority deadline will receive notification of their awards by the end of March
- Returning students registered for the upcoming semester who complete their FAFSA by the March 1 priority deadline will receive notification of their awards in early June
- Students applying after March 1 receive aid as funds become available
If you are receiving outside assistance such as scholarships or tuition waivers please complete the reverse side of the award letter and submit it to Financial Aid Office with copies of the appropriate letters. Remember to make a copy for your records.
To view, accept or decline awards, go to your iSiS Self Service. Keep in mind that some declined aid may not be reinstated.
Disbursement of financial aid, in accordance with the University’s policy, is directly made to the student’s account, except in the case of on-campus employment. Financial aid is disbursed after the add/drop period of each semester.
Verification Selection Process
Each year the Department of Education randomly selects a percentage of all applicants to complete a verification process. Verification is a request for additional information and documentation to verify the information you reported on the FAFSA.
Part I of your Student Aid Report will tell you if you have been selected for verification. A letter of request for Missing Information will be sent to you by the Financial Aid Office if you are selected. Please be sure to complete the Verification Worksheet and submit it to Financial Aid Office along with required tax returns, W2’s and other requested documents.
Be sure to check your iSiS Self Service TO DO LIST regularly to check on the status of your verification and financial aid.
Ensure your verification documents include your name, social security number, Student UMS ID, and all required signatures.
