Charles J. Hoff Scholarship

Application Deadline: Thursday, March 13, 2008

The Charles J. Hoff Scholarship was established in 1991 to provide financial assistance to motivated students who are serious about their education and are in need of financial aid.

Criteria

The Hoff Scholarship awards are in the amount of $4,000, which is applied directly to a student's financial account. This amount ($4,000) pays for almost half of the $8,500 annual tuition and fees and may be continued until graduation on a semester basis, conditional upon satisfactory performance and financial aid eligibility.  The maximum length of the award is six semesters. There is no pre-determined number of new recipients selected for this scholarship each year, but for the 2008-2009 academic year, there will be about 30.

Eligibility (check to see if you qualify):

Are you an undergraduate student enrolled in the College of Engineering, College of Management, School of Health and Environment, Division of Sciences, or Division of Fine Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences?
Are you a U.S. citizen (or eligible non-citizen) and a permanent resident of Massachusetts?
Will you have completed at least 24 or more credits (sophomore, junior or senior status) towards an undergraduate degree as of September 2008?
During the upcoming award year (2008-2009), will you be taking a minimum of four courses or 12 credit hours each semester?
Do you have a minimum GPA of 3.0 from UMass Lowell courses, with no more than 30 transfer credits?
Can you show evidence of financial need?*

If you’ve answered “yes” to all of these questions, then you may be eligible for a Hoff Scholarship. To apply, download and fill out the application below and return it to the Office of University Advancement. Applications, including the mandatory essay, must be completed and returned by Thursday, March 13, 2008 to UMass Lowell, Office of University Advancement, Melissa Kelleher, One University Ave., Southwick 250, Lowell, MA 01854.

Finalists will be selected by a committee and may be invited to meet with representatives of the Hoff Family Foundation in early May. Announcement of Hoff scholarship recipients will be made soon after that. The scholarship will take effect for the first semester of the next academic year (September 2008).

*In order to be eligible for the Hoff Scholarship, you must demonstrate financial need. For this reason, you are required to file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to the U.S. Department of Education by Thursday, March 13, 2008. These forms are available on UML South in the Financial Aid Office or you can apply online.
