Community

UMass Lowell sociology students play roles in many local community groups and organizations, putting their academic expertise to good use.

The sociology practicum provides an occasion for an investigation of a community, social, cultural, or artistic area and for applying problem-solving techniques.  The department has a strong commitment to the city of Lowell and many sociology students work with local organizations to try to improve the lives of city residents both through the practicum and volunteer work.
