Vocal EnsemblesThe University Choir is an auditioned choral ensemble which ranges between 30-50 singers. This ensemble performs standard choral repertoire, as well as modern and new works from all genres. The group recently collaborated with PBS, the Boston Pops Orchestra and Keith Lockhart on a DVD of Jason Howland’s “Handel’s Messiah Rocks!” – a rock adaptation of Handel’s Messiah. This group also performed for the inauguration of Chancellor Marty Meehan. It is an excellent ensemble made up of music majors with an emphasis in voice. However, anyone with a burning desire to sing may audition for this group. Chamber Singers is a highly select group which can be as small as 6 singers, and no more than 16. This ensemble delves into the finest points of small ensemble singing. Repertoire includes early renaissance thru avant garde and new compositions. The goal of this group is to provide expert instruction in chamber choir literature, while fostering independence in each musician. The group performs without a conductor and sometimes does “run-out” concerts to local high schools and other venues. Choral Union is a non-auditioned ensemble that is open to students, as well as faculty, staff and the community-at-large. It is a group that ranges from 45-100 singers and performs standard choral repertoire and has collaborated with the University Orchestra on concerts of Handel’s Messiah and other large works. | |
