Donate to Capital Improvements »The $80 million Emerging Technologies and Innovation Center (ETIC) has taken shape and had its grand opening on Oct. 11, 2012. The 84,000-square-foot facility is the hub of industry partnerships and new manufacturing technologies. Within its four stories, the ETIC provides core facilities for use in fundamental and translational research. It houses cleanroom spaces, wet lab and engineering lab space, and a plastics processing high bay.

In April 2011, UMass Lowell broke ground on a new $40 million, 69,000-square-foot academic building. The Health and Social Sciences Building will support more than 800 construction and related jobs, while helping UMass Lowell make room for its growing student body. It will be home to three of the University’s most popular majors in health and social sciences – criminal justice and criminology, nursing and psychology. The building is expected to open in spring 2013.

Situated at the center of the UMass Lowell campus, University Crossing will serve as a hub of student activity with a large new bookstore, food court and event spaces, as well as some administrative offices. University Crossing will provide an important connection between the University’s three campuses and the downtown business and cultural district, all located within walking distance.

Scheduled to open in the fall of 2013, University Suites will help meet increased housing needs, as UMass Lowell enrollment continues to grow. The facility will offer amenities unheard of a generation ago: suite-style apartments, quiet study rooms, cafes and more inspired architecture and landscaping.
Riverview Suites, a six-story, 173,000-square-foot residence hall near South Campus will feature suites with two or three double-occupancy bedrooms, a kitchen and a common area. The two-bedroom suites will include one full bathroom, while the three-bedroom suites will have two full bathrooms. The property is located on four acres of land adjacent to Riverview Parking Lot. The University will lease the property from Soho Development who is also building this $42 million facility.
More Information Donate to Capital Improvements »This five-tier garage, which opened in September 2012, has added more than 550 parking spaces to the North Campus parking inventory. The garage is not only a useful addition to the campus, but also an attractive one, with features not usually seen in such facilities. These features include aluminum metal “fins” screening the north and west façades, terracotta panels anchoring the corners, restrooms on ground level and enhanced pedestrian pathways.

The South Campus garage will provide parking spaces for 762 cars on South Campus. Tucked between Mahoney Hall and Riverview Parking Lot, the garage will be conveniently located to all South Campus facilities. The six-and-one-half level open-parking facility is a 191,000-square-foot structure that will provide pedestrian access via a large, glass-enclosed stairway located at the north end of the building.
More Information Donate to Capital Improvements »The dining facilities in Fox Hall have undergone a multimillion-dollar transformation. In addition to receiving a fresh new look, University Dining Commons - the largest dining area on campus - boasts eight made-to-order food stations, extended dining hours, and will serve more than 3,000 meals each day. In keeping with the University’s sustainability efforts, food is prepared using energy-efficient appliances and LED lighting, served on biodegradable bamboo plates that withstand up to 5,000 washings, and disposed of with a built-in composting extractor and pulper that eases the process of compacting food waste. The new dining commons opened its doors to students in September 2012.
This new building, which will house the Robert J. Manning School of Business, is named for John Pulichino '67 and his wife, Joy Tong. To give back to his alma mater amid their highly successful business careers, Pulichino and Tong donated $4 million to the University for scholarships, and recently created the Pulichino/Tong Family Foundation scholarship fund for students studying in the Manning School of Business.
