UMass Lowell is undergoing a stunning transformation as every corner of the campus gives rise to new academic and research buildings; upgraded classrooms, libraries and labs; new and renovated student living and activity spaces; and enhanced parking facilities. Listed here are details and progress about current major construction.
Emerging Technologies & Innovation Center
Location: Corner of University Ave. and VFW Parkway, North Campus
- Future home of nanotechnology, plastics engineering, biomedicine and electro-optics
- Construction began spring of 2010
- Expected completion fall of 2012
Health & Social Sciences Building
Location: Corner of Broadway and Wilder streets, South Campus
- Future home to seven classrooms, 16 seminar/project rooms, eight conference rooms and 72 faculty offices for the departments of Criminal Justice and Criminology, Nursing and Psychology
- Construction began May 2011
- Expected completion 2012-2013
- Location: Pawtucket St., site of former St. Joseph's Hospital in Lowell
- Central location to all three campuses and downtown Lowell
- Future home to: student services and activities, campus police, transportation services, bookstore, dining, student housing & academic space
- Location: Aiken Street, opposite Campus Recreation Center
- Construction begins February 2012
- Expected completion is fall 2013
- 472 beds, suite-style (four- and six-bed suites)
- U-shaped building with interior courtyard
Rental Housing on South Campus (pending)
- Approximately 500 apartment-style beds
- Planned for Fall 2012 occupancy
- Location: North Campus next to Costello Gym
- Five tiers
- Will add 550 parking spaces for North Campus
- Broke ground: December 2011
- Expected completion fall of 2012

South Campus Garage (pending financial plan)
- Location: TBD
- 600+ car garage or deck to be built
Fox Hall Dining Upgrade
- Complete upgrade to main dining facility for East Campus
- Opporunity to create "dining commons," improve building entrance, dining hall access
- Expected completion fall of 2012
New College of Management Building
- Concept design complete
- Financing plan underway
- Potentially located on site of Eames Hall
