The New England Mini-Conference on Infant Studies, 2001 will mark the start of our second decade of annual meetings. We hope you have your calendars marked as you should have received an e-mail earlier this fall to confirm that NEMCIS 2001 will be held here at the University of Massachusetts Lowell on January 27 (Super Bowl Saturday by tradition) from 9:30 until 5:30.

The historic city of Lowell is a fun place to spend some time and we have assembled a list of restaurants and hotels for those of you interested in staying for dinner and/or an overnight visit. Lowell is 26 miles north of Boston and 30 minutes by car from Cambridge/Arlington. We will be meeting in the Wannalancit Mills, a beautifully renovated mill building in which the University Research Foundation and the Center for Family, Work, and Community are located. The conference room is accessible and equipped for multimedia presentations (e.g., PC projection for Power Point-you should just need a disk). Morning coffee and lunch are included with registration.

We would like to offer two formats for this year's NEMCIS conference. (1) The traditional paper presentation will be allotted 10 minutes with 5 minutes for questions. Remember that these presentations, while we ask that they be confined to time allotted, can be less formal than most conference presentations-works in progress and updates are welcome. Presentations will be accepted on a first come, first served basis. (2) The second format will be along the lines of poster presentations. We will have trifold poster boards available to mount displays that can be viewed at breaks and over lunch. The material should be "stand alone" so that the presenters can themselves eat lunch, view other presentations, and catch up with colleagues. We will then hold a portion of the day for quick summaries and questions about the posters.
