Karen E. Roehr is a graphic designer, illustrator, writer and book artist with a special interest is in miniature books and moveable books. Her design work ranges from unique announcements to posters and has been featured in Rockport books, print books/ magazine and the forthcomingUltimate Greeting Card Collection from Shenyang, China. Roehr has received many grants including the Kimberly Colen grant from the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, the Mass Cultural Council, Two Healy Grants, a Creative Economy Grant, Lauren Dunne Astley Memorial Foundation Grant, Creative Service Learning Grants from UML and was co-investigator on teams for two prior NSF grants that integrated design with computer science. Design awards include Art Director’s Boston, Creativity Annual NY; Best Shirt Designs; Mulshoe Award 2nd place for publication design; logo design. She also creates the comic strip Gymratz©, now in its eleventh year, for International Gymnast Magazine. Roehr’s fine art work is in the collection at Dow Elanco France. Her artist books have been exhibited nationally and internationally.

Roehr’s teaching interests include integrating professional practice and engagement with social/environmental concerns and interdisciplinary projects/classes with Computer Science, Engineering, English, Music and Sound Recording. Teaching awards include: Art Department Teaching award (2002 & 2011); Twice received Teaching Award on National Athletes day (by top scholar/athlete art majors); Excellence in Teaching (Student Government Association -2010); Excellence in Innovative and Transformational Education (2013).
