The March 13 Boston Symphony open rehearsal was the first of 8 programs in the series. 

Each Wednesday beginning March 26 through May 7, 2008, meetings will start at 10 A.M. and go till noon. All are held in Fox Hall, Room 412, unless noted otherwise.

March 26 - Museum of Russian Icons, 203 Union St., Clinton Mass.

In the museum, founded by Gordon Lankton, a guided tour will be given of the largest collection of Russian icons in North America and one of the largest outside of Russia. Meet at Hannaford Supermarket parking lot at Drum, Hill in Chelmsford at 9:00 A.M. Docent cost is $4. per person and individual donations are accepted.  Please sign up.

April 2 - Jack Craig, musician and teacher, “The Songs and Stars of Vaudeville”

Not only will members revisit a time when entertainment included performers Fanny Brice, Eddie Cantor, Al Jolson and Sophie Tucker but will sing melodies they popularized.

April 9 - Mannerist Artists, Dr. Liana Cheney, UMass Art History professor

In the late 16th century, artists who came after the great masters wanted to surpass them with new ways of expression. Liana will share some of their works with us.

April 16 - Currier Museum of Art, 201 Myrtle Way, Manchester, N.H.

The new galleries allow more of its high caliber collection to be exhibited. Members will be on their own to enjoy the art or take the public tour beginning at 12:30 P.M. (The museum opens at 11:00A.M. and has a dining area.) Meet at Hannaford’s at 10:00 A.M. to car pool. Admission for over 62 is $8. and pay there. Please sign up.

April 23 - Peter Kostolakos, Fine art consultant, painter, and restorer

In recent years a number of paintings at the Whistler House Museum of Art have been restored by Mr. Kostolakos. He will discuss the challenges presented when restoring as well as answer questions about other areas of his expertise.

April 30 - MIT Museum, 265 Mass. Ave., Cambridge

The exhibits on two floors including the Mark Epstein Innovation Gallery will be self-guided. Items displayed demonstrate how MIT researchers “invent the future”. Meet the coach at Hannaford’s at 8:30 A.M. Cost is $8 for members which includes tip and $18. for a guest. (Admission is free.) Coach returns at 12 P.M. Checks payable to Rose Rhoades, and deadline is April 16. Please sign up.

May 7 - Walking Tour of Lowell, Dr. Marie Frank, UMass Art History professor

Dr. Frank leads us on another informative walking tour of downtown Lowell. Meet at the National Park Visitor’s Center, Market St.
