Joyce S. Mehring is Associate Professor and Chairperson of the Manufacturing & Management Information Systems Department. She specializes in decision support for production and logistics activities, supply chain management, and resource allocation planning. Her work appears in journals such as Interfaces, The Logistics and Transportation Review, Production and Inventory Management Journal, and Transportation Research. Professor Mehring currently conducts research on decision support for computer supported document processing and on coordination issues in supply chains. She also is constructing experiential learning settings to teach supply chain management. Prof. Mehring has presented her work at national and international conferences of the Decision Sciences Institute, INFORMS (Institute for Operations Research and Management Science) and the Production and Operations Management Society. She has chaired numerous sessions at these conferences and has served as officer of ORSA/TIMS special interest groups and of the local chapter of the Transportation Research Forum. Since 1996, she has served on the board of the New England Roundtable of the Council of Logistics Management.

Prior to joining UMass Lowell, Dr. Mehring practiced operations and logistics planning and policy analysis for private corporations, industry associations and government agencies for over 20 years. She held senior positions at Amoco Corporation in the information systems department and at Charles River Associates Inc. in the transportation and energy consulting groups. Dr. Mehring began her consulting career at Arthur D. Little, Inc. in the operations research group focusing on production, inventory and distribution issues for manufacturing firms. She continues her consulting with recent assignments on decision support for service operations and on procurement strategies.

Professor Mehring holds a M.S. in Mathematics from the University of Michigan and a Ph.D. in Transportation Systems from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
