Title:  Gannet: A Service-based Architecture for Reconfigurable SoCs

Abstract: The talk will present the Gannet System-on-Chip (SoC) architecture. Gannet is a SoC architecture that promotes the “IP core as service” paradigm. It aims at facilitating high-abstraction level design of complex reconfigurable SoCs by providing a framework for plug-and-play of IP cores. The talk will present the system architecture, which is effectively a coarse-grained distributed dataflow machine, and the Gannet language, which describes the datapath between the services at run time using a functional paradigm. Particular focus will be given to the potential for the separation of control flow and data flow in this system. The talk will include a qualitative comparison between the Gannet and MORA architectures.
