Educational Background

B.S., M.S.(Nursing, Northern Illinois University; M.A., Ph.D. (Psychology), University of New Hampshire. She was on the faculty in the Nursing Department at the University for 20 years and joined the Department of Psychology in September, 2000. 

Bio Sketch

Dr. Coppens' area of specialization is developmental and health psychology. Her publications focus primarily on children's safety promotion and injury prevention and in the area of culture and health practices. She served as the evaluator for the funded program Angkor Youth Dance. Purposes of the program are to provide instruction in Cambodian Dance, increase awareness and pride in Cambodian culture, and promote health and an awareness of issues such as violence prevention, substance abuse, and enhanced communication. It received the National 1999 Coming Up Taller Award presented by the President's Committee on the Arts and the Humanities at the White House. Dr. Coppens is a member of the American Psychological Association, the Society for Community Research and Action, and the Society for the Teaching of Psychology.
