Kathleen Cobb Leonard, Ph.D.
Expertise: Developmental and Cultural Psychology with a special interest in adolescence, emerging adulthood, and religious and spiritual development
Kathleen is interested in the major developmental transitions across the lifespan but particularly those occurring from childhood to adolescence and from adolescence to adulthood. She is especially interested in the developmental trajectories of ethnic minority and immigrant adolescents. Her graduate research focused on the educational engagement of adolescent mothers and the role of religion and spirituality in adolescent sexual activity and romantic relationships among diverse adolescents. During her postdoctoral training at Tufts University, Kathleen worked as part of an interdisciplinary team examining the economic socialization of children of immigrants in the greater Boston area. Currently, she is involved in a research collaboration exploring the role of religion and spirituality in the transition to life after college among emerging adults. She enjoys teaching General Psychology, Research Methods, Child and Adolescent Development, Adult Development and Aging, and Cultural Psychology.
Kathleen loves living in New England and near the wonderful cities of Lowell and Boston. She and her husband Andrew like to explore local historical, cultural, and natural points of interest. Kathleen enjoys photography, playing with her dogs, and volunteering with youth programs.
