Programs combining two areas of specialization, e.g., SRT and performance, also are available. Additionally, students may pursue a combined bachelor's and master's degree program that leads to teaching certification. Others may opt to minor in music.

Individual and group performances are important aspects of all four bachelor of music programs. All students must pass an audition on their instrument or voice to finalize admission to the Department of Music and any of the music major programs. Students in the performance specialization also are required to demonstrate outstanding ability as performers in order to satisfy admission and retention standards. Students in the other music concentrations are required to enroll in applied music courses (private lessons) each semester until their degree requirements are fulfilled. Applied music study is central to maintaining and developing music skills, and students are expected to develop minimum standards of performance in piano and in their applied areas of study.

All bachelor of music candidates must participate in one, two-credit or two, one-credit ensembles during each semester of their residence as full-time students, unless otherwise specified.

For more information about the undergraduate music programs, including general department, language proficiency, recital and ensemble requirements, as well as about the music theory proficiency exam, please refer to the undergraduate catalog.
