Murray Kidd has been active in Boston since 1992. He has had a long association with Handel and Haydn Society and Boston Baroque performing with such conductors as Christopher Hogwood, Sir Roger Norrington, John Finney,Grant Llewellyn, Daniel Beckwith, Giselle Ben-Dor, Martin Pearlman and HarryBicket. He is conductor of the University of Massachusetts at Lowell Choral Union. Most recently he guest conducted for the Reading Community Chorus at the 2007 Civic Days. He was music director of the 60th Anniversary Concert of Sinfonia in Stockton, California. Also, he has conducted professional choirs in concerts around New England and California. This summer, Mr. Kidd will be a Conducting Fellow at the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival in Connecticut. He studied conducting with Dr. William Dehning at University of the Pacific and he completed his masters degree at New England Conservatory where he studied Historic Performance Practice with Daniel Pinkham. On the stage, Mr. Kidd has performed as soloist with many premiere ensembles including: Boston Baroque, Handel and Haydn Society of Boston, Musicians of the Old Post Road, North Shore Philharmonic, Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra, and Coro Allegro. He most recently took part in a tour of California, performing with Ensemble Abendmusik in Fall of 2007. An enthusiastic educator, Mr. Kidd created the Song Recital Workshop. It has just completed its 7th year. The class is devoted to the Artsong Repertoire and focuses on musicianship, music history, poetry and vocal technique. He has been a voice instructor in New England for the past 10 years and has studios at New England Conservatory Preparatory School, UMASS/Lowell, Joy of Music Program in Worcester and also a very active private studio. He has taught Song Literature, 20th Century Music History and Vocal Pedagogy for Eastern Nazarene College and UMASS/Lowell. Mr. Kidd is a member of NATS, ACDA and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.
