Writers in Residence

Major JacksonMajor Jackson is the current Kerouac Writer-in-Residence at UMass Lowell. He was born in Philadelphia and has degrees from Temple University and the University of Oregon. A member of the Dark Room Collective, he has published poems in the American Poetry Review, Boulevard, Callaloo and The New Yorker, among other journals. His poetry also appears in Beacon's Best of 1999: Creative Writing By Men and Women of All Colors (2000) edited by Ntozake Shange; Spirit & Flame: An Anthology of Contemporary African American Poetry (1997); and Xconnect: Writers of the Information Age (1996). His second book, Hoops, is forthcoming from Norton. Formerly the Literary Arts Curator of the Painted Bride Art Center in Philadelphia, Major Jackson is an associate professor of English at the University of Vermont and a member of the low-residency MFA Creative Writing Program at Queens College in Charlotte, North Carolina.
