Jack & Stella Kerouac Center for American Studies

The Jack and Stella Kerouac Center for American Studies was founded in 2005 with generous support provided by Kerouac Estate Executor John Sampas. Its purpose is to strengthen the interdisciplinary study of American culture by facilitating ties between the fields of English, History, Philosophy, Cultural Studies, Art, Music, Sociology, and Economics at UMass Lowell, in the New England region and beyond.

The center sponsors a variety of projects and events in the humanities and social sciences. It also serves as the home for the Kerouac Writer-in-Residence program, the Kerouac Conference on Beat Literature, Kerouac Scholarships and the New England Poetry Conference.
