Department of English

The Department of English serves English majors and minors and students taking courses to meet General Education requirements, as well as offering basic writing instruction to all incoming students.  The sequence of College Writing I and II is designed to teach students how to write clearly and argue effectively.  Through specially designated sections of these courses and a variety of support structures, we also strive to meet the needs of non-native speakers of English. 
           
Outside the curriculum available to enrolled students, the department sponsors conferences, forums, and literary events accommodating the educational and cultural interests of the Merrimack Valley.  In the spirit of promoting and modeling lifelong learning, department faculty engage in research, publication, and conference participation, expanding the body of knowledge available to all and enhancing our classroom teaching.

The Department is home to the Jack Kerouac Writer-in-Residence Program.
