Bio Sketch
Diana Archibald specializes in the Victorian novel, specifically Charles Dickens, and transatlantic studies, particularly 19th century immigration. Her latest project was to edit a special issue on anti-Americanism in 19th-c. British literature for the transatlanticism journal, Symbiosis. Major scholarly works include her book, Domesticity, Imperialism, and Emigration in the Victorian Novel (2002), a 100-page review essay "Recent Dickens Studies: 2005" for Dickens Studies Annual, and another guest editorship of a special issue of Dickens Quarterly on Dickens and America. She has published various other articles and reviews and presented at regional, national, and international conferences. Dr. Archibald has recently begun a new book project: a study of port cities in Dickens's works. Ports Matter will include chapters on London and Liverpool, Boston and New York, Halifax and Quebec, Marseille and Genoa, etc. Professor Archibald also teaches creative non-fiction and is writing a book about her family’s immigration to America from Scandinavia and their westward migration to California during the Great Depression.
