Lumb’s academic career includes Chair of two criminal justice academic departments and Director of the Institute for Leadership Development at the State University of New York at Brockport.  While at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte Lumb was the Director of the Research, Planning, and Analysis Bureau at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department for five years and developed an internationally recognized crime and problem-solving GIS analysis program.  Prior to his academic career he completed twenty-five years in policing including chief of police in two cities.
